Automatic Handheld Screwdrivers

Automation applied to manual solutions: improved operator ergonomics.
Automation helps operators when they have to tighten medium and large sets of identical screws: with handheld screwdrivers with automatic screw feeding, screws are sent automatically to the tightening point, eliminating the need to pick them up and position them by hand and increasing productivity by 35%.
An effective system also for processing medium and large sets of two screws of similar geometries with a single screwdriver.

AIR OR ELECTRIC
Each type has its features.
Since we produce both versions, we will help you analyse all the factors so that you can make the best choice for your production process.
If, for example, the solutions will be used for multiple components and/or applications, it may be more beneficial to choose electric technology with which screwdrivers can be programmed to perform a range of assemblies with different torque and speed parameters, and with different monitoring and/or control steps.
-
TIGHTENING TECHNOLOGIES
There are many tightening technologies and tightening torque control systems, and the most advanced include electronic torque monitoring and/or torque/angle control with varying levels of accuracy.
-
TIGHTENING DEVICES
There are two available types.
One with FORWARD BIT STROKE, patented by Fiam, which moves the bit forward with the screw always “visible”: a beneficial system when working on delicate surfaces as it allows operators to centre the tightening point easily and work quickly and safely.
The other has a TELESCOPIC device to reach tightening points in tight spaces or inside holes.
Two ways of stopping the tightening cycle: when the set tightening torque is reached or when the screw reaches the preset height above the screw-retaining head contact surface. -
SMART SCREW FEEDERS
These are chosen according to the size of the screws, and the production method and capacity you want to achieve.
The custom tightening cycle is still managed by their PLC, which governs all machine parameters and dialogues with the factory 4.0 automated production systems.
-
PRODUCTION METHOD
The assembly method affects operators’ operation and productivity.
In addition to the benefit of automatically having the screw available at the tightening point, there are a number of devices that can be coupled to facilitate operators’ work; for example, poka yoke systems that can detect errors during assembly, before the product becomes a reject and therefore a cost.

ERGONOMICS AND SAFETY
A tightening solution is ergonomic when it improves operators’ physical, organisational and cognitive ergonomics, increasing safety and effectiveness.
It must therefore be designed and built correctly, ethically and sustainably, but of equal importance, it must be used in the right way and maintained properly.
