03 December 2018 PMI DAY – Industriamoci: Students’ visit to Fiam
Friday 16 November was the date for the ninth edition of PMI Day, held in Vicenza. The national event, organised by the Piccola Industria Committee [Small Business] of Confindustria Vicenza, focused this year on the fight against counterfeiting. Fiam began taking part in this initiative a few years ago, to help promote the business culture in its local area.
The day’s objectives were to give the students a taste of the real world of work, and of the local business economy, while raising their awareness of the importance of specialist training and strengthening their knowledge of the role businesses play in their area.
The event was attended by 50 mechatronics students and their teachers from the “Rossi” Technical Industrial School of Vicenza, who received a guided tour of the company and spent a day exploring the world of industrial enterprise. After the tour, the students were given a chance to see how the process of innovation works both in theory and in practice, with a real product application.
Today, it is important to convey to the new generations that they not only need technical skills but also flexibility, in the sense of an aptitude for change and willingness to work in a team. This is why the students were given the chance to see for themselves how a real company works, but they also gained insight into the qualities that businesses are now looking for, over and above the academic knowledge they acquire at school.
Fiam, a metalworking company established in Vicenza almost 70 years ago, could be an attractive prospect for many of the students with a passion and interest for technical subjects such as mechatronics and electronics. There are many opportunities in this sector for school-leavers looking to launch their careers.
